A brown envelope popped through the letter box today. I don’t get brown ones very often and when I do I think it’s from Revenue and Customs but the full A4 size suggested otherwise, unless it was one mother of a tax demand. Fortunately it wasn’t. It was from The Great Outdoors magazine confirming that my application for the 2013 TGO Challenge had been successful which, for a Monday, kicked off to a very positive start to the week.
The challenge takes place between the 10th and 24th May and is essentially a self-supported backpack trip across the width of Scotland. The difference and beauty of it is that I, and the other participants (all 320 of them) have to figure out their own route across but do have a choice of 11 starting points where we have to sign in. Then, it’s up to us. The real bonus is that I see from the participants list that Andrew Skurka is in it. Chances of meeting him pretty remote but hell, you never know. TGO stress it is not a race which of course relieves all the pressure on Skurka as I’m sure he want to beat me 😉
I have always wanted to go see Scotland in May. Rumour has it that this is the best month in terms of weather and the midges have yet to start hovering around. Of course it depends on the winter Scotland will experience but as we all know, with Scotland, you always take your chances with the elements. I’ll report on the event of course, hopefully with video and photos as well.
